I used Proactiv back in the days and it rid me of the occasional outburst quicker than you can say it.

I have a cousin in the family that has used the drug, and he had fantastic results from it.

There are many people that think they need to scrub their face to keep it clean from acne, when in reality, scrubing really does a number on your face. When you're washing your face, use your hands, NOT a washcloth. You need to wash before school/work, and that is all. When using a washcloth or washing more than once a day, your face will start producing oil that you normally had on your face, but will usually overproduce, causing acne.
I used my above method, and have been acne free since I was 14. I'm 24 now.

I agree that the above idea works well, and I did the same thing during my youth, however for many it's not enough. I have seen people that wash their face on a daily basis using the aforementioned method, and still have the problem.
There's certainly a market for Accutane, as it has helped him greatly.

I don't know, truthfully - the stuff does work pretty darn well...I wouldn't be surprised.
a couple of my friends used it. just say good bye to drinking, and blood tests once a month to make sure you liver (i think its liver, or possibly kidneys) arent shutting down. it does work very well though.

Proactiv does work very well, and you don't have to quit drinking nor get blood tests.

Alright, I'll try Proactiv since the reviews on it seem good and not many people bitch about it not working..actually I haven't seen anyone bitch about it...so if that doesn't work.. Accutane it is.. =p

^^ Add on to my other post
After doing some research, I'm actually going to try Acnefree and see how that works out..and leave proactive, Murad or crazy drug as a major major last resort
Yeah acutane should be a last resort. id go acnefree --> proactive --> acutane.

I use Proactiv -- and my acne went from lots in 2003 to virtually nonexistant now. (Most of it was gone within a few months.) It's an amazing product, and I'd tried almost everything else except for Accutane during the 11 previous years.
Suggestions:
1) use proactiv the way it says on the bottle. It has 3 major steps: cleanse, astringent, then moisturizer. Do these 3 things, and do it 2x a day, just like it says on the box. I now do it 1x a day, and buy a new box every 2-3 months.
2) (and this goes for *all* acne sufferers:..) DO NOT TOUCH IT. Don't pick, poke, squeeze, or pop your zits. Leave them sealed. Every time you disturb them, you introduce additional infection and cause the skin to be even more irritated, which worsens the cycle! I say again: don't touch your zits.
3) If you absolutely *must* squeeze, wash your hands first. Do it just enough to relieve the pressure, then leave it the fuck alone.
4) DO NOT USE TWEEZERS, EVER EVER EVER.
Proactiv is seriously a great product. I think that the "anti-acne" industry is actually highly pro-acne. So many of the acne "fighting" products dry out your skin which causes temporary acne relief but makes your acne worse later! I never found anything that worked.
I think that the other "anti-acne" companies like Clearasil must be pretty pissed at Proactiv for messing up their conspiracy.

Don't mess around with that stuff, I'm telling you. I had mild acne, then moderate, then it became severe, with nodular or "cystic" acne. I am switching to Accutane very soon, as soon as I get the bloodwork actually. For a small patch of acne like you say, Accutane is NOT worth it. Possible loss of night vision, joint pains, dryness of lips and eyes and other places, not to mention the monthly visits to the doctor and blood tests.
I bet you $100 they won't even give it to you. They will prescribe another medicine. I used minocycline and a topical gel called Erythromycin. It worked WONDERS. It will work for you, I can almost promise. However, my acne is so severe it did all it could and cleared up a lot, but I have to go on stronger stuff =/
And also, FYI, ProActiv doesn't work.

I have taken accutane 3 separate times, for 6 to 7 months each time. I had really bad acne when I was younger, and I tried every medication (literally, I tired something like 25) different methods. Eventually I was referred to a dermatologist and they gave it to me. When I was on it my acne went away completely after about 6 weeks, but after about a year off of it it came back andI had to do the same thing again. About a year after that it came back again, and I just finished my 3rd round about 3 months ago. It is very strong and should not be taken as a first reaction to acne. There are serious side effects, such as depression, dry skin, cracking of skin, and many others. I am still addicted to chapstick, since I had to use it constantly while I was taking the medication. It does work, but you should really consider everything else before you use it. It can be very dangerous. Good luck

Be careful about chapstick addiction. My friend used Carmex so much that she couldn't go without it. She ended up freaking out one day when she couldn't find it; seriously having a nic fit for friggin Carmex.
You seriously have to wean yourself off it like weaning yourself off smoking.
Eye drops are the same way.
Anything that contains the words "medicinal ingredients" should be used as minimally as possible! Including Accutane.
Your body wants to take care of itself. It has an incredible ability to heal and regulate itself -- you just have to let it.
A growing number of people live in a condition called "overstress". Stress kills you: it is the plague of the 21st century. You need to reduce your stress, normalize your diet and lifestyle, and take time for yourself. Also find ways to sleep enough.
/end rant
