I've traveled from Tampa,FL to Burlington,VT(Essex Junction) a couple of times via Amtrak.Very nice change of pace as long you're in no hurry(it's 27hours).The stage between Washington DC and VT goes quick but going through the Carolinas seems to take forever.

Love train travel! Crossed Canada (well most of it) by rail in autumn & the scenery was stunning around Thunder Bay. Had my own little cabin where l entertained female passengers & again the sights were stunning! :D

Chicago = GREAT transit system. If you don't want to own a car you don't have to.

I take the El, Metra, subway, amtrak, etc...

I live in NYC, which is pretty much a transit city, so I take the train (subway) everyday and occasionally take the MetroNorth (to Connecticut), Amtrak (to a variety of places), the Path (to NJ), and/or the Long Island Railroad (to, well, Long Island) .

Used to ride the bullet when I lived in Japan as a kid. Rode the PATH and subways in Jersey and New York when I lived in Jersey also. Now I live in KC and they can't get a decent public transit together to save their life. I would definitely ride it if they made it.

I took the Via Train to Montreal (For UFC) from Toronto for the first time in my life in april.

Experience was great!! A lil expensive because I booked late but was a lot better than driving.

Maybe it's just me but I like the relative peace underground. I couldn't imagine or live with the noise level on a crowded rush hour train with 100 people yapping away at the same time.

...and why would anyone want to have New Yorkers yapping on the subway in the morning? It's one of the few places we get a little peace. You get this little nutjobs talking about how her boyfriend did this to her and she did that to him - loud as hell. I hear it on the bus about once a week. I don't need that shit on the train.
